Destination #2: Arenal
"The Tolltaker". This is a coatis. Its closest US cousin is the raccoon. Like the raccoon, it has learned how to take advantage of the human world. This coatis was making a practice of waiting on the roadside, and every time a car would pass by, it would amble out and beg for scraps of food.
Lake Arenal - A beautiful manmade lake on the way to La Fortuna.
Our cabin overlooking the volcano. It took 3 rickety bridges and many bumpy dirt roads to get here. The last bridge were simply planks laid across the river. Luckily, I was driving.
Our fearless guide at the Crocodile Ranch. Because of cloudy conditions, we never saw Volcano Arenal erupt (which was the point of this destination) but at least we made it to the local crocodile ranch! That's just as good as seeing an erupting volcano.... right? Photos forthcoming on white-water kayaking adventure.
A big ol' mess of crocodiles.
