Destination #3: Montezuma
Montezuma is a tiny one-interection town reached via ferry and dirt road. It's populated by backpackers, hippies, and surfers. Andrew calls it "tropical Lollapalooza".
The iguanas here are hotel pets. There was a bowl of bananas kept out so guests (like Andrew) could feed them. We saw many iguanas in Costa Rica. They are actually so plentiful that locals termed them "gallina de palo"... chicken of the tree. Apparently, they are quite tasty.
The waterfalls at Montezuma. A great mixture of tourists and locals hanging out. Considering that everyone is dreadlocked and baked brown from the sun, it's a bit hard to tell the difference between the two. It was mostly the locals though who fearlessly jumped from the rocks into the deep pool below.
Of course, Andrew had to try it too.
Climbing to the 2nd set of falls. It a rough climb that not everyone does, but it's worth it!
Day trip to Isla Tortuga. We took a boat out to go snorkeling and visit this uninhabited island.
The only full-time resident here is a peccary (a kind of wild boar). He was found injured as a baby and has been raised tame. He likes to come out when he sees people then rolls over, andwaits to have his belly rubbed.
Palm trees and blue sky on the island.
The Cliffs of Insanity! Kidding. The cliffs of Tortuga Island.
